About the project

Long Island's Birth Warriors is Aleeza's capstone project that highlights the multimedia skills she has honed during her four years in journalism school. The project is an intersection of her interests in women's rights and health reporting. During the 16 weeks she spent reporting on this story, she met countless women who continuously reminded her why it is crucial to report, and never stop reporting, on this topic. Pregnant women may be the most vulnerable members of our society, but the women who overcame their own traumatic birth experiences and continue to fight for birth justice are some of the strongest people she's ever met.
